Off the clock
The work is heavy. These are the things that keep me grounded when it gets that way — the parts of my life that have nothing to do with a campaign.

01
Cooking for people I love is how I decompress after weeks of campaign chaos. Big pots, long tables, loud meals — the kitchen is where the real organizing happens. Here with one of my closest friends, Christy Quirk, in Nice, France for Thanksgiving.

02
Losing hours in a museum is one of my favorite ways to disappear. I am drawn to work that challenges power and reframes who gets to be seen. Here with Matisse at the Stedelijk Museum.
03
30+ years on the road — state capitols, conflict zones, village meeting rooms. But the travel that fills me up most is the kind with no agenda at all.

04
There is nothing like the silence underwater. Whatever ocean is closest, I will find a reason to get below the surface. It is the closest thing to peace I know. I have gone diving in Mexico, Hawaii, Oman, Kenya, Burma, Egypt, Aruba, and Bali (this pic is from Bali).
Striving to be a change leader, not a thought leader.
The democracy I am fighting for is not a distant ideal. It is something I am constructing, piece by piece — in state capitols and village meeting rooms, in PAC filings and Substack posts, in training curricula and building permits in Kigali.
